Pure Storage Acquired Compuverde for $47.9M

September 20, 2019

Although Compuverde was acquired in April 2019, I have not seen any coverage over the acquisition price. I happened to stumble upon it while combing over the 2Q’FY20 Pure Storage 10Q statement so thought I’d quickly share with you; I really do need to find some late-night shows to watch; any recommendations?

From Pure’s 10Q, it looks like the 20 Compuverde employees also received $3M in RSUs and the founders (Wikipedia claims three although I couldn’t find Roger in a quick search) will get $15.9M over three years (assuming they stay on..why wouldn’t they?). Adding it all up, it comes out to about $66.8M plus ongoing salaries of the 20 (based on Forbes article linked above) or so employees they brought on.

If you already knew the acquistion price before reading this, you are a rockstar! Next time, share with me… sharing is caring!

If you haven’t read my Deep Dive on Pure Storage, please read Part 1 (Revenue, Op Profit, and Headcount details) and Part 2 (Sales & Marketing expenses broken down by Employee Compensation w/ commission and stock, Marketing, Travel, and more). More posts to come soon.

Disclaimer: I work for Hitachi Vantara (read my about page for a longer disclaimer) which is a competitor to Pure Storage. However, any post on this entire site has nothing to do with my employment there. I am also not an expert at analyzing financial statements so may have misinterpreted the data; please read the 10Q (Page 15; page 19 of PDF) to verify my interpretation of the acquisition details.
